Elk Haven is 400 acres of private land offering world class trophy elk and prime deer hunting, located just 13 miles out of Magdalena, NM. Albuquerque is 2 hours from the property.
COMMENTS: This drop-dead gorgeous property has hunting written all over it and is in the heart of some of the best hunting in the United States. The views are spectacular, and this contiguous private property is mostly surrounded by Cibola National Forest and is perfect for someone who truly loves the outdoors. The property is covered with ponderosa pine, pinon, oak, red cedar, and alligator juniper trees. The Elk Haven offers mountain living, hunting, hiking, recreation, star gazing and is located just a little northwest and below the Magdalena Ridge Astronomical Observatory summit of South Baldy Mountain. There are old remnants of log cabins on the property.
HUNTING/WILDLIFE: Located in Game Management Unit 17. The elk in this area can score 400 or better. Concerning Elk Tags, an owner can make improvements to the property under the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Department elk habitat guidelines. If they meet the criteria, the landowner can apply for elk tags under the E- Plus small contributing landowner system. Since the property has four different parcels there is the potential to apply for it as a whole or for each individual parcel. Contact the NM Department of Game and Fish for any questions related to qualifying for landowner tags. Mule deer are exceptional and can be hunted with over-the-counter permits. Other wildlife on the property includes mountain lion, bear, bobcat, coyote, and many other species.
WATER and POWER: Even though there is not a well or electricity on the property. Well depth in the area ranges from 200 to 800 feet deep. It costs approximately $ 45 per cased ft. to drill a well and power is approximately 2 miles away.
ACCESS: The property has permitted access through the US Forest Service. The road is in pretty good shape but does have a rocky hill right before reaching the property. The property is only fenced on the south end.
TERRAIN: Varies from mountainous with rock croppings to canyon bottom with some meadows.
ELEVATION: The property ranges from 8,500 to 7,500 feet.

DIRECTIONS: Take State Road 107 south of Magdalena for 7.5 miles. Take a left on Forest Road 234 for a half mile, then take a left on Forest Road 46 for 3.76 miles, then take left tuning north for 1.81 miles to the property.
