The Hampton Ranch is 33,654 deeded acres in Northeastern New Mexico. Located just north of Tucumcari and 15 miles west of Logan along the Canadian River. Elevations range from 3,900' to 4,600'. The terrain starts from the river bottom along a flowing 5 mile meandering stretch of the Canadian River along with a Bosque. Past the Bosque begins a Saccatone plain consisting of several hundred acres of dense grasses. The ground begins to turn into rolling pastures to the east and mesa lands to the north and west. The primary grasses are Blue Gramma, Black Gramma, Side Oats Gramma, Western Crested Wheatgrass, Saccatone and along the river and creeks one can find native Bermuda. There are groves of Cottonwood trees along the river as well as many groupings along the natural springs, dirt tanks and subirrigated portions of the ranch. Mesquite is predominant thru-out the ranch. Juniper and Pinon trees are found along the draws and thru-out the mesa lands.
The ranch is Very well improved, including waterings, fences, multiple sets of working corrals, cattle chutes, calf table, 20 ton set of scales and a 10 stall horse facility. The headquarters consists of a large set of steel pipe working pens, loading and unloading chutes, a W & W hydraulic chute and scales. The main working area is all under roof. Adjacent to the horse facility is a nice roping arena with alleys and chute and a bunkhouse. There are 2 homes near the working area for the help and the main house is a short distance away with views of the ranch. In addition, there is a 40' X 100' shop with 2 overhead doors, a 30' X 50' hay barn and a set of cake feeders. There are a total of 3 sets of working facilities located around the ranch. The ranch is separated into 9 pastures with 5 traps near the working/shipping facilities.
There are 17 wells scattered thru-out the ranch. 16 of the wells are shallow and pump from approximately 120'. A well on top of the mesa is drilled to 630' and is pumped from approximately 350'. There are 18 earthen tanks thru-out the ranch and one that is considered a dam retaining in excess of 30 surface acres of water. There are 4.5 miles of new pipeline with drinkers that accomodate the middle set of pens as well as another cake feeder. The headquarters is served with power as well as the main house and those wells are submersibles. All other wells are either windmills or solar. Caros and Tarkey creeks cross the ranch flowing north to south to the Canadian. There are numerous springs doting the ranch plus the approximate 5 miles of the river cutting thru the south side of the ranch.
Historically this ranch has been a solid 700 head cow/calf operation. The ranch is accessed from Logan along Bryantine Road. Tucumcari can be seen from many places on the ranch but, with the Canadian flowing between Conchas Dam and Ute Dam, any time Conchas runs over or heavy rains occur, upstream crossings may be washed out.
The ranch has abundant wildlife. Elk wander thru the Mesa areas as well as Mule Deer and Antelope. Whitetail Deer can be found along the riparian areas of the Canadian River. An occasional Barbary Sheep can be found along the Mesa rims and Black Bear and Mountain Lion regularly frequent the ranch as well. There is a good population of Blue Quail thru-out the ranch, particularly around the water tanks and drinkers. Duck and Canadian Geese are frequently seen on the earthen tanks and river. The ranch is in Game Management Area 42 and has only been lightly hunted in the past 20 years.
The ranch has a very good road system throughout. Pastures are fenced and cross fenced with cattle guards separating the pastures along the primary roads throughout the ranch.
Land Tycoons is extremely proud to offer the Hampton Ranch for sale. The ranch is a part of the old Spanish Land Grant(the Montoya) which includes the historic Bell Ranch.
