Camp on your claim: both a flatter, secluded camping area off of the jeep trail on the claim, or the secluded camping area off of Forest Road 1900, see Satellite view maps on the listing, where no one uses these areas, or the nearby Lost Dutchman State Park, that has a Visitor Center which includes a park store. The park is open 365 days a year. Bathrooms and two restroom/showers buildings are located in the campground.

A variety of desert wildlife inhabit the park. Mammals of interest include mule deer, coyote, javelina, bobcat, and jackrabbit. Most desert animals are nocturnal, so early morning and late evening viewing are best. Any of the park trails offer good opportunities for birdwatching and wildlife viewing.

This is a 20 unpatented, gold mining claim, North 1/2 of the Hewitt Canyon Gold #4 placer claim. The claim is legally registered with the Bureau of Land Management out of Phoenix. You own the mineral rights, not sharing with others, on the 20 acres, and use your 20 acres, recreationally for camping: tent, camper, or RV, and prospecting. In awesome Hewitt Canyon, with beautiful views of nearby mountain ranges, and rock formations. Great combination of good access, wilderness beauty, and gold prospecting potential.

This historical area of the Superstition Mountains has the most desired claims and lives up to its reputation that is so widespread. The legend of the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine centers around the Superstition Mountains. According to the legend, a German immigrant named Jacob Waltz discovered a mother lode of gold in the Superstition Wilderness and revealed its location on his deathbed in Phoenix in 1891 to Julia Thomas, a boarding-house owner who had taken care of him for many years.

Many since then, and even today, search for the Lost Dutchman Mine, including the TV series, Legends of the Superstition Mountains.

A Location Monument 4 foot wood post has been placed, with an attached copy of our Location Notice.

With an approved BLM Plan of Operation, a building can be built: any building that benefits and improves the claim, though you cannot permanently live on the claim.

Current usage, is what the BLM calls, Casual Use: panning, shovel, rock hammer, metal detector.

When we located the claim on one weekend, we gathered in and around the wash, approx. 1/8 of an ounce of gold on each of the 20 acres, being worth about $150 for each 20 acres. As the BLM does not specify the amount of gold to be found to locate a claim other than gold needs to be discovered, we use this amount for a 20 acre claim as a projection of good gold potential. Someone with more time may find more. Gold prices are over $1200/ounce. Though we could never guarantee what you will find, we did locate this claim in an historically rich area for gold prospecting.

There are very few, if any, other areas in the Superstition Mountains to locate a claim and prospect, being one of the great values of our mining claims here.

You are allowed to post No Trespassing for Prospecting signs around the claim.

The wash on the claim is a great advantage for prospecting, especially when the summer rains run down the wash, then depositing any gold flakes down from the mountains and rock formations.

Prospect for Gold Dust in Arizona's Washes.

20 acres = 871,200 sq., feet., parcel size of 660 x 1320 ft.

This claim has road access, areas for camping, and gold discovered in surface prospecting.

About an hour and a half drive from eastern Phoenix, 59 miles to claim:

Route 60 east, left onto paved N. Queen Valley road.

Then about 2.5 miles to the claim: E. Hewitt Station Road (FR357), to Hewitt Canyon Road (172), then keep straight on FR 1900, to FR 1935 West, to jeep trail South, and use gps coordinates to the claim. Though we did not need 4WD, a higher clearance vehicle is needed.

Can also take an unnamed road further south on FR 1900 to a nice, flatter camping area, and hike 500 feet west to the claim.

A wash is on the claim, and acts as a catch basin for gold mineralized ground. This claim is in a very mineralized area, and is great for rock hounds, metal detecting, relic hunting, and dry-washing. Many historical gold rich producing mines are in this area, including the legend of the Lost Dutchman Mine, see links below. Canyon mountain views and rolling terrain. Pinal County is a region of broad desert plains and canyon mountain ranges. It is one of the largest areas of historic gold mining discoveries. There is a nearby pond, Hardt Tank, where you can hand carry water for your prospecting.

Our claim is in the Tonto National Forest, which embraces almost 3 million acres of rugged and spectacularly beautiful country, ranging from Saguaro cactus-studded desert to pine-forested mountains beneath the Mogollon Rim. This variety in vegetation and range in altitude (from 1,300 to 7,900 feet) offers outstanding recreational opportunities throughout the year, whether its lake beaches or cool pine forest. Hikers, backpackers, wildlife observers and photographers will find many recreation opportunities here. Rugged topography and the area's Hewitt Canyon furnishes the solitude and secluded experience treasured by many wilderness visitors. The town of Queen Valley is a few miles south of the claim which has a store and gas station, and the larger Florence Junction is about 15 miles, off of route 60, just before the N. Queen Valley turnoff.

A transfer of ownership is a sale of legal, exclusive ownership of a mining claim site. To be a legally recorded claim, gold had to be found on the claim, which was completed by me, as I am the original claim locator.

Your ownership is legally conveyed via a Quit Claim deed, and legally recorded with the BLM and Pinal County. A Quit Claim deed is the required legal document per the BLM.

Each year, on or before September 1st, you need to file a form with the Bureau of Land Management, along with $155 ($310 for 40 acre claim). We will supply this form to you.

Fee is paid, not due again until next year, Sept. 1, 2018.

There are no taxes on mining claims in Arizona.

You must be a current US citizen to own a mining claim in the US.

An unpatented mining claim is a specific parcel of federal land, valuable for a specific mineral deposit or deposits. It is a parcel for which an individual has asserted a legal right of possession and the right to develop and extract a discovered, valuable, mineral deposit. Mining claims are real property that you can buy, sell, or inherit. After proving the existence of valuable minerals on the land, the claim is legally recorded with the Bureau of Land Management, and the local county.

Your 20 acres is the North 1/2 of the SE 1/4 of the SE 1/4 of Section 17, Township 1S, Range 11E, G&SR Meridian, known as the Hewitt Canyon Gold #4 mining claim, in Pinal County, Arizona. Claim number: AMC439649.

Gold always occurs in gravels in the metallic state and when so found has various physical characteristics. Gold is dense and heavy, it has a characteristic metallic color, and it is soft and easily malleable (it is easily formed by hammering). These are the characteristics used by prospectors to identify gold in the field. Placer gold occurs on the claim as small grains derived from gossan formed by weathering, and oxidation of the gold, copper and iron rich veins. Gold also occurs as grains flakes and small nuggets derived from the erosion of mineralized fault zones.

The Federal Government owns the land. You are purchasing the mineral rights. You can legally camp, with camper and RV use of the whole 20 acres. Prospect, explore, and camp on the whole 20 acres. This is not a sharing of a mining claim: Is your exclusive ownership.
