Hunting Land in United States
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service’s most recent survey of fishing, hunting and wildlife-related recreation estimated that Americans spend a combined 282 million days and $34 billion on hunting each year. While much of this takes place on public hunting lands in BLM-managed areas, national forests and state parks and preserves, private hunting land is popular for personal hunting use as well as for income-producing opportunities through hunting leases and other commercial activities. Popular big-game species to hunt include whitetail deer, elk, bear and mountain lion, while game bird species to hunt include duck, wild turkey, grouse and pheasant. Texas has a number of hunting ranches where hunters can take aim for exotic species like blackbuck antelope, oryx and aoudad. Along with rifle hunting, crossbow and bow hunting are also popular weapons with which to hunt game. Hunting season and bag limits vary by state and species, so check with individual state wildlife and fishery agencies for details.
